We are a Community of Believers
Seventh Day Baptists are evangelical Baptists who hold to keeping the seventh day Sabbath of the Bible as sacred time. From our first church in America, founded in Newport, Rhode Island, in 1671, until today, Seventh Day Baptists have been a Christ-centered, Bible believing people with traditional family values.
OUR HISTORY IN AMERICA
This year we celebrate our 350th year anniversary. We are one or, if not the oldest, Baptist Church Association in America!
The first SDB church was founded in Newport, Rhode Island in 1671 after leaving Europe due to religious persecution. Our forefathers moved from New England to establish Christ-centered, Bible-believing churches with people who practice baptism by immersion and believe in the priesthood of believers. We have traditional family values, and love of our country.
We accept the main tenets and doctrines of the Bible, although each member may have minor issues and differences in understanding. We are a covenant people based on the concept of a personal, born-again relationship with Christ.
We practice an autonomous (self-governing) existence, with each church in relationship and communication with the Seventh Day Baptist Denomination, but not controlled by the denomination.
We are similar to conservative Baptists, but with one major difference—the observance of the Sabbath—not Sunday.
